Every single registered domain has a minimum of 2 Name Server records that show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a certain website hosting provider. This way, you've got both your website and your e-mails handled by the very same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are a number of other records, for example A and MX. The former reveals which server handles the site for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, when you type a domain name in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you may be directed to the servers of a different provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having different records for the site and the e-mails means that you can have your site and your e-mails with two different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a Linux web hosting through us, you're going to be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. So long as a specific Internet domain has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change specific records through our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or e-mails pointed to another provider if you wish to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool is going to allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address the slightest bit. If you choose to use the email services of another service provider and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with simply a couple of mouse clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. Also you can set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any of your domain addresses or subdomains is really easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are managed by using our in-house built Hepsia CP, which includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as simple as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not encounter any problems if you choose to switch your website or emails to an alternative provider while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you could also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
