An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a PC and works as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web hosting servers also have an Operating System that acts as a host for the software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and many others. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to acquire one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on the server as different apps may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and risk-free web hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you would like to run. We can also upgrade your OS routinely to keep it as secure as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
